Introduction Landsat Thematic Mapper ( TM ) imagery was used to analyze patterns of landscape diversity in the seasonal tropical forests of northeastern Guatemala. TM radiance and the radiance coefficient of variation (CV) were significant in discriminating land-cover types. Cluster analysis of TM4, TM5, and TM7 radiance produced six distinct types of landcover. Green leaf biomass from TM4 and canopy closure and degree of senescence from TM5 and TM7 represent the most important variables in discriminating between landcover types in the uplands and the lowland swamps respectively. Patterns of landscape diversity reflected in three landscape indices were also examined: the number of landcover types (LCT), the Shannon-Weaver index of landscape evenness (S-W), and a topographic index (TI).

Quantum decoherence, the evolution of pure states into mixed states, may be a feature of quantum gravity. In this paper, we show how these effects can be modelled for atmospheric neutrinos and illustrate how the standard oscillation picture is modified. We examine how neutrino telescopes, such as ANTARES, are able to place upper bounds on these quantum decoherence effects.
